This post is about an all day, TEDx Upper West Side Women event on Thursday, October 27th at Symphony Space. It coincides with the main, live TEDWomen event in San Francisco and will feature live feeds from that event as well as local, in-person, speakers. The program starts at 11am and will go until 5:30 pm or later (depending on whether you choose to join social events afterwards). Tickets for this event will be purchased directly at SYMPHONY SPACE. MWC Members, look on the “Sign-Up!” link on the members’ home page menu ribbon or go to the Reservations/ Payment Page for a discount code to use for a reduced admission price. If you do plan on attending, please let us know so lunch can be organized for the MWC group.
The topic of this year’s TEDWomen program is: IT’S ABOUT TIME. It’s a phrase which is being spoken often these days in relation to American politics but also about ….everything! Have you ever known a woman – particularly a woman in New York – who hasn’t complained about not having enough time? Time to accomplish daily tasks, or to invest in one’s health and mind, to spend with family and friends or to dig deep into topics which interest us and are important for ourselves and the rest of the world.
There will be a full roster of live speakers, approximately 12, holding forth on a wide variety of topics including the arts, re-invention, living with cancer, politics, the environment, yoga, social media and aging. One of the speakers will be Beverlye Hyman Feade, a well-known artist, author and documentary film maker. The 82-year old Feade was diagnosed with a Stage IV cancer in 2002 which she has written about extensively. Fortunately, she has recently turned her attention to the topic of aging, and has writes a blog and has recently published a book, “Aging In High Heels.” Aging gracefully and with passion is her topic now and she captivates audiences around the country.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. Individual TEDx events are self-organized.and provide a local or specific focus.
