This post is about an ORACLES WORKSHOP with New York’s most consulted and respected urban shaman. The MWC’s private session (limited to 10!) will include an introduction to the some of the more popular global oracles (Runes, Yarrow Sticks, Astrology and Tarot), a discussion about oracles – and what they are and how they work. There will also be a personal Tarot reading for each attendee on a question of your choice. Since this session is so limited in size we will also do a secondary sign-up to try to see if we should schedule an additional, later, session. Session cost is $60. per person.
THE WORLD OF ORACLES: Believe it or not, there are a lot of razor-sharp, hard-hearted New Yorkers who will barely make a decision without first consulting their shaman of choice. This certainly falls into a “strange but true” category but, have to say, it works for a lot of people. First some personal history: many, many years ago on a bit of a lark, I consulted a shaman (hey, she came to the office!) and she told me two things. The first was that I would have two children – must say, I thought she was a huckster since I had no intention of having children. (But, yes, I have two!) The other was that she mentioned that “bones” were somehow important in my future. This seemed like random, crazy, unspecific talk. But surprise, surprise – 16 years later I broke a copious amount of my bones and they indeed became very important!
And what the heck is a shaman? How is a shaman different from a witch or a medicine man – or a priest? These are questions we should ask but a very basic definition would be someone who has access to and influence in the world of good and evil spirits.
So, lucky us, we will have the opportunity to meet with New York’s most celebrated shaman. She will introduce us to several global spirit tools and techniques in order to tap
into wise, universal, energy. This all happens inside her sacred ceremonial center in the heart of Brooklyn – where she also has a gift shop! We all know that life can be confusing, confounding and downright difficult at times – so a lot of people consult “wise energies” (personal ancestors, deities or the universe) for answers and guidance.
Of particular note, this shaman focuses on women entering or in the midst of midlife who need to explore positive aging, achieving goals, personal empowerment and maximizing their potential. As she puts it, “Millions of women with unprecedented freedom, education, longevity, and wealth hold positions of unheard of responsibility and stature. No longer Maidens, nor Mothers, and not yet old Crones, the question arises: Where do dynamic, accomplished, middle-aged women fit into the traditional description of the three stages of womanhood?” In response to this, she proposes the concept of the midlife Queen – a woman in her prime who has achieved wisdom, mastery and self-esteem. Finding, developing and using your inner Queen is the first step on the road to enjoying an influential, passionate and powerful maturity.
The point here is to develop a practical, down-to-earth approach to spirituality and archetypal wisdom. Hey, now doesn’t that sound like something we could all use?
