Is it MEDICARE or MEDI-SCARE?  Many of us think the latter as we are buffeted with a lot of lingo which does not do anything to alleviate anxiety related to the topic of aging and health care.  You hear about donut holes and coverage gaps, and spend downs and income limits, not to mention the need for supplemental health care plans.  Oh yeah, and then there’s all those parts – A, B and D and then a bunch of letters thrown in for additional types of coverage as well.  Is it any wonder that the mere thought of trying to figure out health care gives one a headache?

No big surprise that health care and specifically “Medicare for All” is already a hot topic for the upcoming national elections. At this point it’s mostly Democrats who are dipping their toes into the Medicare for All minefield.  Bernie Sanders has already declared he’s all for it as has Kamala Harris.  Beto O’Rourke is figuring out what he wants to say and Elizabeth Warren has so far dodged questions about it – especially how this would relate to the private insurance industry.  You’re going to hear a lot more on this topic!  The Republicans have jumped on the issue, too, not surprisingly from the opposite position.  According to Trump, “In practice, the Democratic Party’s so-called Medicare for All would really be Medicare for None,” and “Under the Democrats’ plan, today’s Medicare would be forced to die.”  But, politics aside, our focus is on YOU and how to sort out this complicated topic for yourself and those you love.

The main presenter at our session will be a representative from Nationwide Insurance, who works with  Morgan Stanley on health care costs, Medicare and Social Security.  Remember, Medicare is a type of insurance so it’s useful to have someone from the industry present and answer questions on the topic.

As always, our thanks in getting this important session together goes to MWC’er Anne Izzillo who has steered the MWC’s Financial Literacy Series from the get-go.  Thank you, Anne!  Hope to see as many of us there as can make it … this is something we’ve wanted to do for a very long time and the time is NOW!
